One way Hydro Clean has been delivering high-quality services to homes throughout Colorado Springs is through professional area rug cleaning. Area rugs are a great way to add decoration to your home while protecting your floors underneath. However, over years of use, area rugs can become overrun with dirt and allergens that are difficult to remove with household cleaning tools. Furthermore, area rugs are prone to be contaminated with pet urine, which can lead to unpleasant odors lingering in your home. Our knowledgeable team has created a guide on everything you need to know about area rug cleaning to teach you about the benefits of having your rugs professionally cleaned.

Area Rug Cleaning Process

Having your area rugs professionally cleaned is a great way to maximize the cleanliness of your home. While regular vacuuming helps with removing dirt and allergens that have settled into your rug, the smaller particles will work their way into the fibers of the rug, making them nearly impossible to remove. Luckily, professional carpet cleaners utilize high-powered equipment that is specially designed to thoroughly clean area rugs and remove all contaminants. Here is a glimpse into the process behind professional area rug cleaning:

1. Rug Pick Up

The journey to a clean area rug begins when a certified carpet cleaning technician comes to your home to pick up the rug. Area rug cleaning is performed in a building that can house the large equipment needed to do a thorough cleaning.

2. Pretreatment Inspection

Next, a pretreatment inspection will be done to determine a cleaning procedure that will yield optimal results. Stains, tears, and the cleanliness of the rug are all taken into consideration when developing a cleaning plan.

3. Rug Beating

Once a cleaning plan has been determined, the cleaning process can begin. The first step in professionally cleaning an area rug is to beat the rug. This method will extract all loose dirt and allergens from the rug through a series of vigorous shaking that is done by a large machine.

4. Vacuum

After all loose debris is removed, the area rug will be thoroughly vacuumed by a cleaning technician. While this may seem unnecessary since vacuuming can easily be done at home, professional rug cleaners utilize commercial-grade vacuums that have a lot more suction power.

5. Dye Lock and Pretreatment

A dye lock will be added to the rug before any further cleaning is done to ensure the color and appearance are preserved. Afterward, a pretreatment will be added to the rug as a cleaning agent. The rug will soak in the pretreatment for quite some time to ensure they take full effect.

6. Wash

After your area rug is done soaking in the pretreatment, the washing will begin. A trained technician will apply a mixture of cleaning chemicals and water directly onto the rug until it is saturated. They will then use a rotating brush specially designed to work the cleaner deep into the rug's fibers to lift any remaining dirt, allergens and pet urine. After the rug has been thoroughly scrubbed, the technician will use a squeegee to remove the remaining water and pretreatment from the rug, along with the contaminants that were lifted from the carpet fibers. This process will be repeated until the rug is completely clean.

7. Dry

Once all allergens, dirt, and other contaminants have been removed from your area rug, it will be placed into a large centrifuge to dry. The centrifuge will spin the rug and remove any remaining water without causing any damage. The rug will then be removed and placed on a large drying rack to finish drying.

8. Posttreatment Inspection

Before your rug is safely returned to your home, a final posttreatment inspection will be performed. This ensures the rug has been thoroughly cleaned and all stains have been removed.

9. Rug Drop Off

Finally, your freshly cleaned area rug will then be returned to your home. A technician will walk you through the cleaning process that was performed on your rug and reveal the results. If you are satisfied with the new, clean appearance of your rug, it will be placed back where it belongs.
